Territories, infrastructures and ecologies

What are territories made of? Infrastructure and ecology? These terms may seem contradictory; the concept of infrastructure refers to a set of facilities that organize social and economic relations, while the concept of ecology evokes the study of the dynamics of natural environments. However, the consequences of political economies and human histories, saturated with their infrastructures, can now be seen in the organisms and ecologies of all environments. How can infrastructures be interpreted as never fully successful attempts to control beings, lives, and flows, which thereby contribute to the production of ecologies? How can we account for these joint productions of infrastructure and ecologies that shape our territories? The challenge of this series of seminars (in french) will be to propose conceptual tools and reports on empirical investigations that put these concepts to work. Bringing together internationally renowned researchers, this series is jointly organized by Spiral and URA (Architecture Research Unit), with the support of URA and UR Cités. It takes place as a series of closing events for the European ERC project "The Body Societal" (The BoS, GA949577).
