A public lecture - delivered in French - organized to mark the inauguration of the Centre for the Study of War and Violence, directed by Julien Pomarède, lecturer at the Faculty of Law and Political Science and criminologist.

The event will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Kurth Amphitheater, Place du XX Août (4000 Liège). The conference will take the form of a roundtable discussion. 

Following an introductory remarks by the Rector, Anne-Sophie Nyssen, the roundtable will bring together the following participants: 

    • Mr. Mathias Delori, CNRS Research Fellow (Sciences Po Paris - CERI): "Democratic (Anti-)Militarisms" 
    • Dr. Anne Lagerwall, Professor of International Law at ULB (Center for International Law - CDI): "Bombing to Enforce Human Rights: A New Exception to the Prohibition on the Use of Force Between States?"
    • Mr. Benoît Pelopidas, University Professor (Sciences Po Paris - CERI): "Arms Race, De-democratization, and Environmental Devastation"
    • Mr. Christophe Wasinski, Professor of International Politics (ULB - Research and Studies in International Politics - REPI): "The Global Arms Market and Democracy."

Moderator: Mr. Edouard Delruelle, Full Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters.
